about

Chicago house music veteran Audio Soul Project returns to Fresh Meat Records with a two-track release that showcases his raw, analog sound. "Heavy Footed" is a minimalist jam, with a melodic droning mono synth lead and squelching acidic bass line that's sure to get your head nodding. ASP wrote that he created the track back in 2013, working with an MPC 2000XL and a microKorg, and revisited it years later to finish the arrangement and add new elements from the Arturia Pigments synthesizer. The track was then expertly mixed down by Brian Boncher and mastered by Dietrich Schoenemann, who gave the tune a warm, punchy feel.

The second track, "North and Damen (Awoke+Mazi ReRub)", originally released on Chicago label Afterhours in 1998, gets a new remix treatment from Awoke and Audio Soul Project aka Mazi. The duo turns up the disco vibes on this one, with a groovy roller skating rink feel.

Overall, Audio Soul Project delivers a refreshingly raw sound on this release, eschewing the glossy production of many modern dance tracks in favor of a more analog and stripped-down approach. Look for this release to hit download shops like Traxsource and Beatport before being available on streaming sites.
